Aloft ExCel

The first Aloft to be built in the UK.

The design follows a ‘serpentine’ plan with a convex central spine flanked by two concave wings. These wings are clad in thousands of reflective stainless-steel shingles creating an extraordinary effect of constantly changing colour. Inspired by the illusion of depth seen Victor Vasarely’s paintings, abstract horizontal stripes have been fritted onto the glazed central spine. This creates a dynamic interplay of movement and depth when combined with the undulating colours of the crescent wings.
