Darbishire Place

Shortlisted for the 2015 Stirling Prize, Darbishire Place on Peabody’s Whitechapel estate completes an ensemble of six housing blocks surrounding an internal courtyard. The original block was destroyed during the Second World War.

The design respects the characteristics of the existing buildings on the estate, continuing the idea of "open corners", promoting easy pedestrian access between the courtyard and the surrounding streets. A naturally lit winding staircase provides access to the 13 new family units, all of which are affordable housing.
