Highmead represents an exemplary development vehicle increasingly becoming popular for local authorities wishing to kick start regeneration in run-down areas. We won the Highmead project at competition, after it was advertised in the Architects' Journal. Currently the site is occupied by an 11 storey sixties housing block, which has been empty for years and is a magnet for vandalism and anti-social behaviour. In contrast, at the base of the tower, along Fore Street, is a row of shops and businesses that are still an important part of the high street.
