JC Decaux

Wilmotte uk architects completed the building located at 27 Sale Place in the buzzing area of Paddington, London. Built for DF Real Estate and designed by Jean-Michel Wilmotte and his London office, Wilmotte UK Architects, this high-end mixed-use building comprises office space, retail, and residential apartments.

Located in the heart of London, exceptionally well connected with major railway stations, the building is situated very close to Edgware Road and the Paddington Basin, between Bayswater and Paddington conservation area to the south, and the Paddington Opportunity Area to the north.

The existing site constituted two separate office buildings built in 1968 and 1970. The scheme by Wilmotte & Associés completely stripped back the existing fabric of these buildings, except for the facades facing the conservation area, involved major internal structural alterations to open up the floorplates, and includes an extension to the top floor to unify and simplify the massing. The main façade was rebuilt using an elegant curtain walling system, with anodised aluminium fins emphasising the verticality of Praed Street, and the ground floor was rebuilt in black Indian granite for the retail and reception creating a solid podium.

The white render facade facing Praed Street with soon host the work of a major international artist with a piece of public art specifically comissioned for this project.

The building is spread over 6 levels and provides an integrated and comprehensive approach to sustainability and energy saving utilising green roofs and photovoltaic panels. The building aims to achieve a "Very Good" BREEAM rating.
