Lumiere Apartments, 58 St John’s Hill, SW11

The Grade II* Listed Granada Cinema had been on English Heritage’s Buildings at Risk Register for several years before the unoccupied building was revived into the £30 million Lumiere Apartments scheme.

Assael Architecture had two objectives; to extend its lifespan for an environmentally and economically sustainable future, and to protect the integrity of its Neoclassical Komisajervsky designed auditorium.

A mixed-use scheme was achieved via the meticulous restoration of the interior for future versatile use and a careful and elegant integration of 59 residential apartments located in a two-storey extension oversailing the existing building and in the converted fly tower.
