Paris Garden

Paris Garden provides a new home for Central School of Ballet, incorporating 162 student residential units (75,000 sq ft), together with six dance studios and associated accommodation for the school.

The building reinforces the street frontages along Paris Garden and Hatfields, completing the urban block and addressing the open space to the south. The design reduces its visual impact by splitting the building into two similarly proportioned blocks.

The predominant facade material is terracotta, reflecting the variety of brickwork in the immediate context. The fine horizontal terracotta elements are supported by a metal framework, ordering the principle of the facades. At the lower levels, where the HIVE and Central School of Ballet require an open relationship with the street, large areas of glazing animate the street frontage. A landscaped, raised garden sits between the two residential blocks and a landscaped roof terrace includes tree planting and grasses.
