Sainsbury Wellcome Centre

The Sainsbury Wellcome Centre represents a partnership between the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and the Wellcome Trust to establish a new Research Centre in Neural Circuits and Behaviour at UCL (www.ucl.ac.uk/swc).

The new building is located at UCL (University College London) on the corner of Howland Street and Charlotte Street. The neuroscientists working in the new facility will use state-of-the-art molecular and cellular biology, imaging, electrophysiology and behavioural techniques, supported by computational modelling, to investigate how brain circuits process information to create neural representations and guide behaviour.

Professor John O'Keefe, Inaugural Director of the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Edvard and May-Britt Moser on 8th October 2014. The award was for their discoveries of cells that constitute a positioning system in the brain.
