Shaftesbury Theatre

This challenging project entailed building a 35-tonne capacity flytower, offices and plant on the roof of the 1911 Grade II listed Shaftesbury Theatre to secure its future, whilst enabling it to remain operational throughout the construction works. The serrated shape of the flytower extension forms a dramatic angular volume on the skyline and is fabricated from panels of weathering steel, chosen to complement the ornate faience façade and terracotta palette of the original theatre building and neighbouring Edwardian mansion blocks.
