The Granary, Central Saint Martins

The Granary and complex of new buildings, which once held Lincolnshire wheat for London’s bakers, is now a creative warehouse for Central Saint Martins, part of University of the Arts London. These buildings have been designed by Stanton Williams Architects. Originally designed by Lewis Cubitt, the iconic building is the front door to the new university campus that extends 180 metres to the North, flanked on either side by the Transit Sheds. Internally, studios, workshops and lecture theatres are built around a broad, covered “street” with overhead walkways. The building also houses performance and exhibition spaces and the 350-seat Platform Theatre. The former stables now hold up to 275 bicycles.
